Metabolic Syndrome is about three times more common than diabetes, the global prevalence can be estimated to be about one-quarter of the world population.Reference: The Global Epidemic of the Metabolic Syndrome
It silently progresses damaging the body internally until one day one is hit with a major complication like a heart attack or stroke. With the advent of medications, this disease can remain silent even longer. But these medications do not cure the underlying process.
The reason why the majority of people in the world above 50 are on medications like cholesterol lowering, diabetes, or blood pressure pills, is because they do not know exactly how to take care of it.
I have post-graduate degrees from England, Ireland, and the USA. I have been a board-certified Anesthesiologist in England and USA for 30 years and have been researching metabolic syndrome for 30 years i.e. even before this name metabolic syndrome and the name glycemic index were coined.
My weight was 172 lb., BMI was 26, HbA1c 6.4, blood pressure running at around 170/90 mm of Hg, and fasting blood glucose 107-118mg% and 2 hours after food blood glucose 120-130mg% that would shoot up to 170mg% after high GI food loading. Medications were prescribed to me (though I did not take them as they are not the real solution. They do not cure the disease.)
My weight dropped by 20 lb to 152 lb, BMI dropped to 23.2, Blood pressure came down to 130/70 mm of Hg, HB A1C came down to 5.6 and the blood sugar started staying around 90-95 mg% fasting, after food or any time of the day. My energy level increased tremendously. My weight remained constant at 152 pounds for almost last two years. I am not on any medications.
Remember there is no magic pill for this problem. You will have to learn what is good for you and what is not, know how to do it, and do it yourself.
The key is that you need to know what exactly you need to do and what is the minimum you need to do to get the result.
If you understand it, it can be done in just 6 to 12 weeks.
